ASTM SA-36 Grade Introduction:
ASTM SA-36 is a widely used mild and hot-rolled steel known for its excellent welding properties. It is highly suitable for a variety of processes, including grinding, punching, tapping, drilling, and machining. Compared to cold-rolled C1018, ASTM SA-36 has a lower yield strength, which allows it to bend more easily. As a result, larger diameters of ASTM SA-36 are generally not produced since C1018 hot roll rounds are more commonly used for such applications.

ASTM SA-36 steel is extensively used in numerous applications, including:
Bolted, riveted, or welded construction of bridges, buildings, and oil rigs.

Heat treatment range: 1614°C – 1599°C
ASTM SA-36 Hardening:
Hardening is done between 788°C – 816°C (1450°F-1500°F).
ASTM SA-36 Tempering:
ASTM SA-36 is a low-carbon steel that is not typically suitable for heat treatment. However, if hardening is required, heat to 880-910°C and then quench in water, followed by tempering.
